In 1955, confident of the quality of his fried chicken, the Colonel devoted himself to developing his chicken franchising business. Less than 10 years later, Sanders had more than 600 KFC franchises in the U.S. and Canada, and in 1964 he sold his interest in the U.S. company for $2 million to a group of investors including John Y. Brown Jr. (who later became governor of Kentucky).
I love the story; the grilled version of the glory ain’t so bad either.
Before us we have one of the reasons so many people have no excuse. We also have another great reason why people still risk their lives to come to the USA.
OPPORTUNITY. It’s never too late to achieve success. Age is still, just a number.
I think what hinders us is the enemy of control. Changing from certain degrees of this kind of thinking will help us from wanting to give up when things don’t happen according to our desired time and/or desired way. If we’re not careful we’ll make control a type of god. Control acts as a god that cruelly judges one’s life and keeps one imprisoned by shoulda-coulda-woulda. In this head-space, one does not proceed through life with delightful expectation or passion. I’m gonna have to re-visit that another time.
Anyway, as oppose to trying to control the unknown, maximize every here and now. In other words, RE-INVENT you. From the look of things, Colonel Sanders wanted success early–not intending on finally “making it big” at the age 65; nonetheless, he did. What do I mean?
He was a sixth-grade dropout, a farmhand, an army mule-tender, a locomotive fireman, a railroad worker, an aspiring lawyer, an insurance salesman, a ferryboat entrepreneur, a tire salesman, an amateur obstetrician, an (unsuccessful) political candidate, a gas station operator, a motel operator and finally, a restaurateur.
This man re-invented himself, continuing to move forward. Why? You never stop. You never quit. Things don’t always workout but that’s the spice of life. You may never have started your successful business had you not been laid off or fired. You may have never rediscovered who you are, if you did not get divorced. We can’t control every aspect of our lives, for instance – we can’t necessarily stop a bird from flying over our head but we can certainly stop it from landing or making a nest.
If I had the chance to dig into is his apparent never give up mindset, which led to the re-invention of himself, life would be enhanced. Where did he get the determination from, the perseverance? Though I would love to sit and pick his brain in person, I guess I’m just going to take what I know to gather the possibility of what I would find out if face-to-face with him. Looking at his resume, he had some tough jobs. One job title is repetitive – Salesman.
I heard a gentleman say this:
Selling and gold mining are very much alike. The people who remove the most dirt, who work thru the greatest number of No’s that uncover the greatest number of Yes’.
Salesman need to be tough-skinned. They have to face rejection, whether it’s a kind or rude version, and keep a smile on their face. There’s the thought that the odds are stacked against them, but the craziness to defy those odds. Many successful business today were built on the sticktuitiveness of salesmen who realized that when life gives you lemons, make a meal with some lemonade and chicken and make it finger lickin’ good.

Enjoying another walk today. While I’m walking, I come toward a hill. I think to run/jog it and then I think of my knee that’s ace bandaged at the moment. To say I’m apprehensive is right. There’s the EIK! moment; the uh-uh moment; and the What If moment. Now the knee isn’t nor ever was broken but it’s been swollen, and the doctor suggested wrapping it, among other things. So a light jog should be fine, in my opinion. But as always there is more for you to see here.
I began thinking of the relationship (be it small, almost non-existent, for some) that we have with our finances/money. We’re afraid to move forward because of current insufficiency. We’re afraid to take a chance because of the possibility of something bad happening. We cower from prosperous opportunities that are not overlaid in gold or adorned in gems. Moving forward may be a bit painful, but in fact the old saying – No Pain, No Gain – still applies. Don’t be imprisoned by fear, pain, anxiety, criticism, past, present,…Nothing.
Apply pressure and know that you were built to stand. So what you’ve buckled before-made bad decisions and more-
Be strengthened in education
Be strengthened with time
Be strengthened in knowing, you’re not alone
Be strengthened for pursuing what may not be now but certainly may be in tomorrow.
Don’t think negatively either. Look if you’re going to have anything in life, you’re going to have to put aside what was, even what may be for your dreams. Quit thinking that everything is a gimmick. Quit thinking that everybody knows what they’re talking about.
Bankruptcy is not the end and for others of you it doesn’t have to be a beginning.
Your ‘being careful/cautious’ is really procrastination – tell the truth
We don’t encourage being gullible, so be informed – still look before you leap.
Did I jog? Yes. Was there pain? Yes. Did I stop? Kinda – stopped jogging but kept walking. Oh yeah! I just thought about people who complain about taxes. Some do overtime to make more but then get angry about the taxes as a result. Okay, so there are taxes, but are you also one of those sets of people who has their OT going toward their pension? Gain. There’s also a biz/tax tip that I’ve learned from many where you make taxes work for you. You can make all your money work for you.
Did I jog again? Yes. Was there pain again? Yes. Did I have to stop again? Kinda again. Could I have pushed through it? Yep, if Jillian Michaels or Duvet or somebody was pushing me. Sometimes having the right person pushing you helps in a pursuit. For those that work out with weights, we know that our spotters are not just there if we need help but also to challenge us. Is it possible that maybe you do better with someone than on your own? Well, do that. That requires homework too, because some people are not in it for you but for themselves. Still no reason to not pursue.
Took a walk to the store this morning, despite the rain, and in so doing realized just how pleasant it is. The rain was light and the mood was right. Walking of itself is something I enjoy; it’s my go to for exercise (me no run).
As I started walking, I began looking for earthworms on the ground. It wasn’t long before I saw one about 3-4 inches long drinking up the water flowing down to hill. That may not be so interesting to you but for some reason it is to me.
But one of the things I do often is walk with a song. The more I was out there the more inspired I felt – the song became a message; from message to concert; from concert to…

Alright, I’m good, back up the hill in the rain and in the moment.
I couldn’t help but feel how beautiful the weather is and feels. Without fail the thought was to share my moment with you all.
You know, we can look at things around us and find negatives. It’s actually the most accessible place to those that have not conditioned themselves differently. This applies to family, self, our finances, our world and more.
Let’s take 20 minutes, every hour of every day, to condition ourselves to see the beauty in something we would otherwise find to be contemptuous. Not only so, but rather than looking at the problem see the solution that is usually there. It’s conditioning and it’s life changing. We can see the rain and consider the mud, or we can see the flowers the bloom as a result of. I love it. I’m inspired just thinking about. Well I guess I should be, since I’m the one writing about it. Maybe you’ll understand it better if you had my experience, eventhough there’s so much more I could say.

It’s amazing how time reveals that older is wiser in many instances. This here is certainly one of those times. No matter how long ago this book was originally written, the style in which it was written and the principles relayed to us are still of great relevance. As a matter of fact, the word ‘relayed’ is noteworthy indeed. Reason being – as a verb, it means to carry forward, and essentially that is what’s happened here. The baton of success is being passed to him that is in pursuit. Ok, so what am I saying
Napoleon Hill has initiated a race of wills – for if you will, you shall. This race is between the haves and the have-nots. Not monetary wise but that of persistence, that of having a ready mind, that of passion. Right now the ‘Haves’ are ahead and seemingly unreachable by the ‘Have-Nots’; but please note that this is not a Sprint. Yes, speed is required, as time is always of the essence – for who knows if tomorrow will be – but this race is more about one’s endurance; as it is a long distance run. Lets relate it to a triathlon, if you will. For the seeker begins in a sink or swim situation of which happens long before the race. Napoleon aims to help us understand how great a role our state of mind/being plays in the overall outcome of our own success; and success to each is different, but I’ll speak more on that later. One sinks or swims in accordance to their belief that they will. As a Christian, I love the mention and implication of scriptures. In this case, I would apply Mark 11:23 “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever… shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that…which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” There is a conditioning of the psyche that is imperative for the success seeker; the one who is ready.
One is truly not ready for more if their thought life is unstable. There’s a note in the ‘Forward’ informing us that what is before us are “…steps for those searching for a definite goal.” There must be an aim, otherwise one is running around pursuing, in vain, a better life like a chicken with its head cut off; no direction, blinded. Napoleon says, “There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is Definiteness of Purpose…” But I love it because, once you’re in the race, you’re not in it alone. That should not go unnoticed. Napoleon Hill did not discover the secret(s) to success from a box. He shares with us the lives of others. Just as is the case with something like a triathlon, anything worth having is worth working/fighting for. But now that I am in the race, I owe it to me and loved ones to push forward. What’s awesome is that I have help. Though I’m pedaling away, my help are the wheels of positivity and momentum. This positive mind will make me attractive. The more attractive I am the more attractive I will be and the more I will draw those who are and that which is attractive too.
Oh man, I love this book, because it gets the juices flowing. It charges the battery of the one who refuses to be average and guides them without giving all the answers to the test. In that I mean, he’s like a teacher who says it without saying it. But I have to bring your attention back to the comment on one’s view of success. You see, he lets us know that success is different for everyone. If we use the whole triathlon thing again, some people would feel/be successful for just getting through. There are people who are teachers and love what it is they’re doing and are successful.
Moreover, one should know that being a success is not limited to years of schooling. He speaks of how Carnegie was convinced by Schwab of this: “…much of that which is taught in the schools, is of no value whatsoever in connection with the business of earning a living or accumulating riches.” It’s amazing how so many people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars going to college to get a degree in something they’re not passionate about.
Many of us was under the impression that we should become a doctor, a lawyer, an electrical engineer, a politician, or something of sorts that is considered to be prestigious and that, in so doing, we will be rich and successful. Napoleon Hill presents to us that it’s permitted to step out of the box of that thinking. There are highly successful people who are affluent [in family, life, and money] who are high school drop-outs (not that we promote dropping out), but not because they’re not smart enough; no, not by far.
As we continue running through life we must be mindful of others. There may be a chance that while you’re running, you notice that someone has fallen or is simply in need of an encouraging boost. Napoleon Hill says, “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.” No man is more wealthy than the man who is able to lend a hand Up.
I really do encourage all to read this book. As a matter of fact, it should probably be read every 1-2 years (note for those who’ve read it already). What would be most beneficial is to stop after each chapter and review:
- What has been learned
- Two quotes to add to the think bank
- Why you agreed/disagreed with something said
- The portion to apply and see definite results within two weeks time,
- and more of your choice.

The name of the movie is “A Moment to Remember.” An aspiring architect, currently working as a carpenter, fell in-love with a designer and was now sitting with her father. The father shows him a picture of J*s*s on the wall, then… well, let’s read it together.
Did you know Jesus was a carpenter?

What’s the difference between a real carpenter and a sham one?
Go to a shop and see many. They [shams] all complain about the wood. The real carpenter sees the texture.

I think that is powerful. The father adds,
It’s the same with you. You’re all wrong, but there’s texture.
This is so powerful. This is so God to make Himself known as He who looks beyond our faults and sees our needs. The One who is not taken back or at a lost with our shortcomings, but instead lets us know that when we are weak, then He is strong.
So what does this have to do with the new millionaire’s mindset? I think you already know. I think you see what I see.

Many of you are here now because of curiosity. Not only so, but many of us refuse to settle because of that same curiosity. Curious about what life is like on the other side. Curious about tomorrow. Curious about what makes the rich and/or wealthy ‘better’ than those who are not, as yet. Well here’s a secret for you:
DECISIONS = RESULTS
Seems simple, right? Well follow me because it’s more involved than you think. Just as homicide is the death of an individual and pesticide is the death of pest and so forth, I found out, that DECIDE means – to put to death any other options. This is what separates successful people (no matter how much they currently make) from those who just don’t get it.
So the other day I was talking to a gentleman who’s the owner of his own construction company. He told me that he got started after quitting his job. Get this, he quit because he wanted a $50 raise and was denied. He thought to himself, if he is not worth $50 than he is in the wrong place. It’s been over 64 yrs and he is now a millionaire with a legacy he has established for his children who can now run the business for him, if he didn’t still believe in working hard no matter the age.
Now I know some of us have been in the position of feeling like we were worth more than what someone was willing to pay us. We’ve pondered the thought of doing something else (quitting, finding another job, starting a business, taking a trip, etc) and maybe even went so far as to write up a plan or goal-map. What happened? We stayed pondering and failed to decide because of the agonizing ‘What Ifs?’ and only saw it as it related to the negatives. In other words, fear took up residence in our hearts and minds and kept us from moving forward by putting death to our hopes and the possibilities of tomorrow and the involved yet successful journey to life on the other side. The other side of what? The other side of fear, doubt, feeling helpless, having not enough, having just enough, and so forth.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith substantiates ones hope but if there’s no hope, there’s nothing for faith to validate. Trying to prove your new invention or idea is not crap, while yet feeling that way inside, is not going to get anyone to believe – not even you.
Think -have no money, Say -have no money, Result -have no money. This becomes a cycle.
Be inspired to think like a millionaire. Think like where you want to go as opposed to where you are. Stop with the defeated thinking. Turn negatives into positives: What if it works? What if I get the loan? What if my child goes from a C+ average to an A+? What if I become the next example of success for my children/family/community/world? What if…?
Also, stop looking back. Whatever didn’t work before should be analyzed for your next move forward and that’s it. No more attention or power should be given to it. If you decide to step out…as Nike said, Just Do It! Do what?
